What materials are BondiBlu frames made from?

At BondiBlu we predominantly use Polycarbonate material to manufacture our sunglasses and reading glasses frames. However, we use TR90 material for some of our more specialised BondiPro styles.

Polycarbonate is a type of lightweight and impact-resistant thermoplastic material.

It offers several advantages that make it a popular choice for eyewear:

  • Impact Resistance: Polycarbonate is resistant to impact, making it a suitable choice for sports and outdoor activities.
  • It provides a level of durability that can withstand accidental drops or impacts.
  • Lightweight: Polycarbonate is significantly lighter than many other materials used for sunglasses frames. This lightweight nature makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods without causing discomfort or fatigue.
  • Flexibility: Polycarbonate frames have a degree of flexibility, which allows for easy adjustment and provides a comfortable fit on various face shapes and sizes.
  • Hypoallergenic: Polycarbonate is a hypoallergenic material, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. It reduces the risk of irritation or allergic reactions commonly associated with certain other frame materials.

Overall, polycarbonate frames provide a combination of strength, lightweight comfort, and protection, making them a popular and reliable choice for sunglasses.

TR90 frames are made from a type of thermoplastic material called Grilamid TR90. It is a unique and advanced material that offers several desirable properties for eyewear frames.

Lightweight: TR90 is known for its lightweight nature. It has a low density, making TR90 frames significantly lighter compared to frames made from other materials. This lightweight property contributes to the overall comfort of wearing TR90 frames.

Flexibility and Resilience: TR90 frames exhibit excellent flexibility and resilience. This flexibility makes TR90 frames more resistant to damage and provides a comfortable fit on different face shapes.

Impact Resistance: TR90 frames are highly impact-resistant. The material has the ability to absorb and distribute the force of impacts, making the frames less likely to crack or shatter upon accidental drops or impacts. This property enhances the durability and longevity of TR90 frames.

Hypoallergenic and Skin-Friendly: TR90 is hypoallergenic, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. It is less likely to cause skin irritations or allergic reactions commonly associated with certain other frame materials

In summary, TR90 frames are made from a thermoplastic material known for its lightweight, flexible, and resilient properties. These features make TR90 frames a popular choice for comfortable, durable, and stylish eyewear.
